Job Description

As the Senior Product Development Engineer, you will play a critical role helping LII deliver on the next generation of energy efficient and environmentally friendly market leading products. You will be part of a diverse, close-knit and talented team of engineers. In this high visibility, high impact role, you will collaborate on new product introductions and see the results of your contribution moving down an assembly line as a finished product and then installed in homes /businesses across North America.

Our Mechanical Engineers develop and evaluate the product design encompassing aspects of mechanical components, equipment, machinery or systems. The person in this position will also assign work/provide direction to the technical CAD designers as well as laboratory technicians.

In this role, you will be trusted to:

  • Lead product development activities, which includes initial concept creation via drawing or CAD modeling, physical prototype creation, and final testing.

  • Interpret and implement customer specifications and documentation requirements for both internal LII best practices as well as adherence to product safety standards published by UL, CSA, ETL, etc.

  • Plan, organize and conduct technical projects or phases of projects involving product design and development.

  • Lead in the application of engineering principle knowledge to conduct routine analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes.

  • Conduct engineering studies for innovation & patent opportunities root/cause analysis, and potential cost out opportunities.

  • Coordinate the efforts of designers, engineering technicians and model prototyping shop personnel as required by assigned projects.

  • Lead Engineering Change Notices (ECN) through the proper channels to modify and improve current products in production



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.

  • 5+ years related experience In HVAC Product development.

  • Understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology.

  • Familiar with analytical and CAD software. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
